algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi everyone,

I have two questions:

1- Does anyone know how do to define the Ashikhman Shirley Radiance material mentioned in this paper

 http://web.mit.edu/sustainabledesignlab/publications/SpecularGlareP...

2- Where is the HB .rad file located? I prefer to add Radiance materials directly in the .rad file instead of using the add Radiance material component.

Thanks in advance

1. I would email Alstan for that question.

2. Look for "HoneybeeRadMaterials.mat" in Ladybug's default folder- You can also use "Honeybee_Add to Radiance Library" component to write your materials to the same file.

Hi,

is there a possibility to change the default values for zone-surface?

If i define a material e.g. EXTERIOR_ROOF and add this like described above, the calculation uses the predefined values if i don't use HB_setRADMaterials and assign the new values.

In Germany we have a directive concerning daylight-factor calculations with fixed values for reflectance, therefore it would be great to define this values as standard for all my calculations...

Heiko,

Can you help me to understand why does using setRadMaterials component do not work for you? You can assign any radiance material that you want to the surface.

Mostapha

Hi Mostapha,

using setRadMaterials works fine but it would be great if the default values could be defined e.g. with an ini-file. This would allow us to use the standard values from the regulation without assigning them to each zone manually. Not a big deal at all but nevertheless a possible source of error for the users.

Best regards,

Heiko

Hi,

Just an idea, may it be worthy that you create your materials with the default reflectances, cluster them and create a user object with it?

Like:

Inside the cluster

Outside the cluster

Julia

Hi Julia, A quick note [for advanced users]. A good practice is not to use Glass as the material name. 'glass' is the radiance modifier name for transparent material. It will work but it's just not a good practice.

Hi Mostapha,

Thanks for that!

I wrote glass for the example. Usually I use the commercial name of the glass that I'm testing or a simplification like "dbl_glz".

But I didn't know that, so I've been lucky

Hi Heiko, Agreed that there should be a way to overwrite the default materials globally. You should probably add this to GitHub so we don't forget about it.
