Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hello,

I think I've reached the peak of my grasshopper knowledge and now need to create an animation, which I have never tried before.

I have multiple slider which i know can be animated (right-click). There are two things I would like to be able to do;

1) Render an the animations without the viewport background, so I only have the grasshopper object.

2) Pick multiple sliders to get all the possible iterations.

I have had a go at using a few different things (one of which is included), but It's a little beyond me how to get it working.

Any help would be really appreciated.

Thanks

I've used the TT Toolbox's Brute Force to get it to simulate all the results, but i'm not sure where the results go, or how to render them?

Use the slider animation. It's interface is pretty self-explanatory, access it via right clicking any slider you wish to use as the animation "driver".

Thanks for the reply Mateusz,

When I do that it only animates one slider. I would like to animate every iteration of all the sliders.

It may help to tell you what this is for:

I'm trying to create a film which flicks through all the various iterations for this model. To do this for all the sliders and get all the iterations would take forever!

Hi Laird, do you really want to render all permutations? (1.6E28 !!!) I surely hope not. Can you tell which ones of your seven sliders should be iterated?

Check this post by David Rutten: http://www.grasshopper3d.com/video/permutations and David's definition on this page:  http://www.grasshopper3d.com/xn/detail/2985220:Comment:962916

(B.t.w. your tower is tilted (axis for revolving is tilted), and the NurbsCurve should be degree 2).

Hi Pieter. I've attached the file with tighter sliders to reduce the number of permutations.

I Would like to have all the sliders to produce the results in this if possible.

Embarrassingly I'm not entirely sure how to stop the tower from being tilted (which is why I've set it to 1 - I couldn't get it to work when it was 0). I also don't know how to change the Nurbscurve degree..... Sorry. I'm pretty new to all this.

Sorry, here is the attached simplified file

That's quite a bit better, but still will still generate nearly half a billion images...(multiply all ranges of your sliders; 20*20*20*20*20*17*8). I would reconsider.

Since you are using an older version of GH, I'll attach an screencapture of how to get the tower straight.

Thank you very much, I'll straighten it up once I've got this bit sorted.

I've attach another example which only has two sliders (both the sliders are only selecting even or odd numbers so I should only have 100 permutations (10*10). When I click the button it just pushes the sliders to their lowest number and creates lots of the same image. Any ideas?

Thank you for your help so far

I think this script chokes on the odd or even number sliders... try just integer sliders.

Worked! Thank you very much Pieter (and others). This site is such a good resource for beginners.

Hmm, I should have calculated: 21*21*21*21*21*18*9   ~:/
Still, marginal...
