Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

My project is to build a spiky ball, like a planet with sharp mountains.

On the right of the attached image, it is the "landscape" created by Kangaroo. But when I flow it onto the sphere, it deforms a lot and becomes blobby. See the result on the left.

I am wondering how to create a nice form-finding-ish geometry on a sphere same or close to on a planar surface?

Many thanks!!

It's not a good idea to use a single nurbs surface to create creases or cusps. Nurbs surfaces like to be smooth. Would you be ok with a mesh approach?

Thanks David.

Sure it is fine to use mesh. Actually the "landscape" was a mesh generated by the Kangaroo. Then I tried to use the same Kangaroo method on a mesh sphere but failed.

Attached are the files I used. Much appreciated if any suggestion.
