algorithmic modeling for Rhino

This concept work in progress is testing the ability to produce geometry by crossing multiple 3D modeling platforms. The shell is modeled in Rhino3D and then paneled using Grasshopper3D. The paneled structure is then brought into Autodesk Maya where it is extruded and smoothed to produce the soft structure seen in the image. Rendered with Arnold in Maya.

I find that when it comes to smoothing and extruding faces individually, Maya is the way to go, especially if you set the geometry up properly in Grasshopper first. Being able to switch between faceted and smooth in Maya so quickly makes it easier to understand how the geometry is working. It's also far easier and more intuitive when editing individual faces, points, and edges if you are looking for localized aesthetics. Maya is also more robust and can handle a larger poly-count without slowing down.

In the end, it's probably just personal preference but I am sure there are more variations anyone can achieve when utilizing multiple programs, that is what I am interested in right now.
