Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hello Karamba users,

I have a follow up on my last question regarding sheetpiling simulation in karamba. See my last discussion here:

http://www.grasshopper3d.com/group/karamba/forum/topics/non-linear-...

I now want to simulate a strut frame that reduces displacement in the sheet piling. Sketch of the situation:

I tried it as following, the elements between the two shells dont seem to reduce the deformation of the shells at all:

I attached the rhino and grasshopper files for reference.

Thanks in advance!

Hello Raphael,

the end-nodes of the struts need to be vertices of the shell-mesh. Otherwise there is no connection (see attached file).

You should embed short beam elements in the mesh and connect the struts to these. Otherwise due to stress singularities at the struts end-points (they act like infinitely sharp needles) the results do not converge with increasing mesh refinement.

Best,

Clemens
