algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi,

In my Karamba model I am using the Optimize Cross Section component. It works fine for me. However, I would like to give member size from my list not only as maximum but as a minimum. For instance, I cross section optimiser would not choose certain members which are smaller (let say in height) from the certain cross section family. Just like the Max. height and Width input in the same component.

Is this something can be improved in that component?

Actually my case even a bit more complex, since I want to restrict minimum member size for only a group of members. The rest can be anything from the list.

Is it maybe possible to make two cross section optimiser block and then join the model into one?

Thanks,

Balazs

Hi Balazs,

you can define your own cross section families. For each beam the optimizer starts to look at the first cross section in the family list. In case it is sufficient the cross section is chosen, otherwise the optimizer procedes to the next cross section in the list. By reordering the cross section family lists you can control the selection procedure.

With the 'Modify CroSecs'-component it is possible to rename existing families of cross sections.

One can feed several cross section families into the optimizer. These are then applied in parallel to the members with the corresponding initial cross section families. For details see the manual.

Best,

Clemens

Hi Clemens,

Thanks for the tip, this worked well ;)

I re-arranged my cross section families and feed them to the optimizer. Beforehand, I selected one-one cross section for the specific member IDs to run the analysis. Then the optimizer knew that which family to choose from. With cross section disassemble and some cull pattern the cross sections can be arranged in many way. ...I'll combine these later with materials too, since there some members which are not available with all kinds of yield strength.

Regards,

Balazs
