3D printing help for thickening complex surface

Hi all,

I have been working on this complex surface for my studio project and run into some problem when I tried to thicken it and get ready for 3d printing. I tried a couple of things: a) the rhino surface offset, it worked well as solid but also lead to some messy self-intersected surface

b) the offset mesh without self-intersection script I found in the forum

but somehow I couldn't get rid of some naked edges and make it a watertight solid

is there any other way I could try?

your object is a polysurface, not a solid. It is not a "good" Rhino object.

The first thing is to have a good surface. The link you used is for solid. What you can do with a mesh of your object is an isosurface of it all around. Tou make a grid, then you calculate distance from point of this grid to you object and then you make an isosurface. This could be done with Millepede, Cocoon or Monolith. Meshmixer could also help.
