algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi Guys,

I started from a tube-like mesh and tried to add a ridge that would represent a kind of plastic hoop stopping the nylon to fully minimise itself (picture below). I've tried the following things (after watching this tutorial from Daniel Piker on ridges):

  1. To add anchors with a lesser  strength where the hoops is
  2. To add a bend force when the polyline of the hoop is
  3. To increase the rest length of the springs where the hoop is
  4. To combine the above (springs of bigger length + bend force).
  5. Tried it both on K1 and K2 just to check

Apart from the anchor technique which keeps the points where they are instead of adapting to the geometry (not true to reality), the spring just creates star shapes (bend doesn't seem to resist the minimisation of the rest of the springs). See printscreen below - Any help would be great! attached is the definition too.

How are you doing ?

The star shape that are shown are due to the element length of the ring. The input length in your model is 0.5 however the original length of the ring elements is much less than this, that's why star shapes are generated.

If you use a ratio of the original lengths you will get rid of those star shapes.

first, i didn't look your file... sorry for that.

second, i solved this using on the inner rings the followings kangaroo components:

1. length line with the original length,

2. coplanar points and

3. the angle component for a "rigid" ring.

If you dont use the coplanar component, you get a "nice" deformation like using a flexible inner ring, also, the coplanar component give me error with higher resolution mesh (i just erase it and put a new coplanar component... weird bug).

i think it is working correctly...
