Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

The tutorial shows step by step how to define the space frame system using PanelingTools for Grasshopper.  I attached the data sheet and the GH definition.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Enjoy!

Hi Rajaa,

Thanks for the tut - I just had a go with it, and am having a silly little problem that's keeping me from progressing. Creating the grid is giving me a runtime error, and I've tried all vectors with no luck.

Would you mind tapping me on the back of the head with the shovel that eliminates such issues?

Thanks,

Ernest

What does the runtime error say?

Are you using the latest version of PanelingTools and PT-GH?

I'm using the March 20 version.

The error is attached.

Thanks,

Ernest

Ernest,

Thank for the details... It can be my fault because I used my local newer version to create the definition.

Did you try to use new ptPlanarExtrude component (drag from menu)?  Does it give same error?

I will release new version shortly just in case.  Please let me know if it works for you.

Hi Rajaa,

I get the same error (I mean, without checking exact punctuation, etc.) when dragging a new ptPlanarExtrude component.

And - while I have your attention - I've noticed a lack of offsetpoints in the GH version. I've used this as a staple for my limited experimentation with PT, and feel a bit handcuffed without it. Does the move component in GH render the offsetpoints command redundant, and therefore, not included?

Many thanks,

Ernest

Hi Ernest,

Strange error because this is one of the earlier components that did not change... I will release new version of PT-GH shortly and hopefully that will help.

I know you did not get far with the space frame tutorial, but it actually shows how you can offset a grid normal.

Here is an image showing how to do that.  Will this work?

Yes, I believe I can make that work - thanks Rajaa.

Looking forward to the new release.

Keep up the great work!

Ernest

Hi,

Thanks for the tutorial, been really helpful on a current project.

Do you have any suggestions for possible warping of the form?

Thanks!

Sarah

Hi Sarah,

Not sure I understand.  Can you give an example of what you would like to to achieve?

Also, check the primer, there are few good tutorials that might help.

GH definitions of the examples are in:

Rajaa

Hey, thanks for the links - I'll be sure to check them out asap.

In the meantime, this is what I would like to achieve through space framing.

Thanks for your help so far Rajaa!

Sarah

I need some help please. I am using your tutorial (i select a vertical line, that's the only difference).

I'm trying to wrap the building (purple) with your tutorial but i don't know how to adapt your tutorial to the same mesh wrap the complex geometry of the building. Could you help me?
