algorithmic modeling for Rhino

hey guys!

i need your help! is there another way not using "rhinonest" to nest/pack groups of curves.

i tried to use antonio turiello's nesting component, ading a roator and a jitter, works quite well, but i kant nest goups of curves (outline+tag)

do you have a definition or a hint how to do this?

thanks bea

PS: i added my definiton, feel free to test!

Hi,

try this! ;)

hey!

thank you for your answer!

verry interessting! what are the Rnd components doing? are the generated numbers just random? if yes, thats why i used galapagos to find the the best angle for rotation and the  best order (jitter).

what i tried to say was, how tho nest geometries consisting of for exmaple two lines (ill send you an example) you have the outline  and a tag of this part. is there a way to put them together and nest them?

expected result:

thank you for your help!

I have the same problem. Did you manage to solve it or does anybody have a suggestion how to do it?

You can always use Group to group together multiples lines/geometries into a single object. It depends on the nesting logic, but if it is done in GH than it should also support groups and keep them together.

I am using the definition posted here: http://www.grasshopper3d.com/forum/topics/nesting-packing?commentId...

and it doesn't support nesting of groups. Do you have any nesting definition that nests groups to recommend?

Hi Guys! The GENERATION nesting plugin is great but I run into the same problem with nesting parts made out of multiple curves.

I am trying to nest a box for laser cutting. One of the parts has sloths/holes as can be seen in the image below. When nesting this part, the nesting component sees the sloths as separate parts since it requires a list of curves as input. As a result the sloths are nested separately as can be seen in the image below.

I think I need to group a list of curves into a list of one item that contains the same information. Is this possible? The image below shows the list of curves. One curve for the part outline and 9 curves for the sloths/holes. The nesting component needs to see this list as one single curve.

Does anyone know if this is possible and how?

There is no unique way to nesting...
In that definition Rnd generates pseudo random numbers (updatable with Timer and Recompute)
for the "seed of shuffling engine" and the "rotation angles in radians".
However all your requests will be resolved in a definition i already thought to share.
You just have to wait a little! :)

Thats great! when will you share your definition? is there a already a version to test? you can send it to me by email if its not ready for the public. bea.franko@googlemail.com

:)

I use Packrat if my pieces are more or less rectangular.  In your case, that might not work out so well.

thats just an example... maybe thats a way using packrat...

but how to pack a group of lines? do you have a definiton?

I make my closed curves into thin solids (planarsrf + extrude) then I try to pack them in a thin box that is less than 2 times thicker than the amount I extruded my closed curves.

cool!

thank you!
