Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi,

I designed a shell lace bridge within grasshopper, because of the too big displacements, I decided to add bracings designed as beams.

Unfortunately, after adding the beam bracing to the full model, the 'non static' error pops up when trying to use the analyse function after assembling the model. I already added the end points of the beams to the meshed shell, but I guess the connection between beams and shells still isn't working.

Model in rhino with the blue bracing structure and the shell laced bridge. (quickly drawn section in left bottom corner).

Thanks,

Michiel

Hi Michiel,

in Karamba elements (e.g. shells and beams) are only connected when they have common nodes. Use the 'MeshBreps'-component and feed the endpoints of your beams into its 'IPts'-input plug. This ensures that they become vertices of the resulting mesh.

In case of a kinematic system one can use the 'Eigen Modes'-component to detect rigid body modes.

Best,

Clemens

Thanks for the quick reply, feeding them into the meshbreps worked out!

Thanks!
