Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

This video combines the Galapagos solver with the Geco plug-in for Grasshopper. The value we are optimizing is the solar exposure on the rooftop for maximum PV production. There are three corners of the roof which are fixed due to program and design intent (constraints). The fourth corner can move, the roof can bulge, and entire building can rotate (parameters). Running the solver for a couple hours presents the optimized orientation and roof shape for solar exposure. The value on the screen is a unit of Wh/m^2.

Note: Shadows from surrounding buildings were not considered in the Ecotect calculations.
