Sergey --

The name display in text mode is actually the NickName, and won't affect the way Bifocals names components (using full names).  What I have done, however, is provided an override for single-object groups that you have named yourself (I do this a lot to identify landmarks in my definitions). These components will not be labeled and these groups will not be removed when Bifocals is turned off.

As for the design options, I'm sure there is a more elegant way to display the information but all of the examples you have proposed require some serious mucking with the way components are displayed within Grasshopper, which are in many cases inaccessible to us except perhaps via reflection (complicated) -- whereas Bifocals simply uses existing Groups that are independent of components, which is lightweight and easy to manipulate.  I'll leave the advanced visualization options up to David and GH 2.0...

Cheers,

Marc

Thank you! You really helps out.
I also thought about these design options.

Marc Syp, renamed component will show a different name?

Still waiting on Food4Rhino.

Another teaser, showing off a few more options:

It's true -- Bifocals will be released tomorrow, most likely. The timing of your experiment was perfect!  (Nice work, by the way.)

I put the finishing touches on the release today, and the installer is awaiting approval over at Food4Rhino. In the meantime, a little teaser:

Excellent news! Thanks)

Just so you know, Marc Syp is close to releasing a tool very similar to this that called Bifocals that we were using internally - it's a great way to have the best of both worlds - icons and names at the same time. it's great for sending helpful screenshots for forum posts as well!
