Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi Daniel,

I am upgrading all my examples to version 2.02. Nevertheless, when simulating, things go really fast, and I cannot get a nice and smooth evolution of the system, such as the typical catenary sagging under its own weight. Even if setting all force values to near zero.

I wonder if there is any option to speed down the simulation/calculations? For the sake of better user experience.

Thank you very much in advance!

Well ... other than the Goal values (that may yield "bottlenecks" - as you may understand) there's the multi threading option.

It could be fascinating to do that type of stuff using CUDA // GPU based processing.

Notify if you want a dual test case (a tensile membrane one) where the old brave world meets the new brave world.

I think you may have mistakenly replied to a different post here...? :)

I am trying to figure out how to slow down K202!

Er ... hmm ... if you think so ... but ... a simulation is a simulation or not?

Hi Jose,

At the moment the best option may be to use the Script in the StepByStep example, with a timer attached. This advances the simulation in smaller increments, although it is still trying to reach equilibrium in as few steps and with as little oscillation as possible.

In future versions I do intend to bring back an option to run the solver with more conventional dynamics, allowing you to set the drag low and watch things bounce into place instead of snap there suddenly.

Hi Daniel,

Thanks a lot for your response. I saw the example, but it feels kind of convoluted for a beginner level workshop ;) Indeed, it would be a very nice feature to have.

Best,

JL
