Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi there,

I am trying to create a Hoberman circle that expands and contracts from the centre/origin of the circle. I came up with the attached script however the motion I get is not linear, one-directional but a circular, twisting motion.

Does anyone have any idea of how to fix this? I tried to reverse the rotation at the end of the sequence but of course that wouldn't work. I also tried to rotate the initial triangle of the circle but in that way I lost the links between the pairs of triangles.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Have you tried using Kangaroo 2?

The attached uses your geometry, fixes one point, then "grabs" any other point if you hold ctrl + click (see the discussions in the Kangaroo 2 posts here, as you might need to turn off the COFF loading in GrasshopperDeveloperSettings). The rest of the points are fixed on the Z plane.

When you Ctrl click and drag the point (click on the component in the group to see which point to pick) the rest of the mechanism will respond.

Hope I've understood what you were after? This was a very quickly put together bit at the end of your definition, there are probably better ways for you to utilise the add-on, but it should give you a brief idea of what can be done.

Sorry Irina, I didn't quite get what you were after and it looks like Pieter's solution below is spot on - and a better way to do it for sure! I was being a bit lazy but Kangaroo is still a fun little toy to play around with though! If you type "grasshopperdevelopersettings" into Rhino and untick the "COFF" box then reload grasshopper that got the grab point working for me.

Hi Irina,
did you mean to keep it orientated like in the attached?

Hi Irina

I´m trying to replicate your exercise but the definition ask me diferents points and lines or angles components so... Can I put any point or any line or any angle or i need a specific point?

Can you help me please! :D

P.D. I love your definition i use that for my thesis, and i searched many diferents definitions about scissor structures but none like yours definitely your is the best.

Hi Irina

I´m trying to do dynamic structures whit scissors structures, in this modules or structures develop Urban Agriculture. The main figure is a dome and the idea is that this dome close and open whit scissors structures.
