algorithmic modeling for Rhino

The Tower - Bending Active Tensile Membrane - Form Finding 02

Form finding modelling for a bending active (glass fibre rods) tensile membrane (bespoke knit) tower structure. Developed by Anders Holden Deleuran (CITA) in Rhino/Grasshopper (McNeel/David Rutten) using an early build of Joey/Kangaroo2 (the awesome Daniel Piker) implemented in GHPython (Giulio Piacentino/Steve Baer). 2 X real time playback speed.

reprojection error (scanners fault) :-)

I'll even bet those slight deviations on the scan are zip-tie placement.

Awesome! Thanks for sharing. Great to see the tool being used. Just a shame you're not there to see it :( Hope all's well in Lausanne!

Cheers Will. It was actually Henrik and Martin that did the scan, I just compared the two :) The elastica behaviour seems to be spot on and it is super useful to be able to use bending member segments with odd lengths. They're currently running at workshop up at CITA with the UDK students implementing this definition. here's a peak:

Really nice Anders! I didn't realise you'd gone to such lengths as to verify the model with a laser scan. As always, in awe of your graphical style ;)

nice one!

Great work. Thanks for the detailed reply.

Thanks Djordje, they represent an approximation of the local bending radius and orientation at each vertex. Here's a few images which might make it more clear (they blue points is a laser scan of physical model to verify to form finding model):

This is wonderful Anders !!
The red, orange perpendicular lines represent rod's momentum diagrams?
