Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi guys,

I have a waffle system. It looks like that:

I want to make it with wood. So I have to make 2D-drawings for the CNC-machine. Like that:

You see that the vertical ones are right but the most of the horizontal ones left?

Does anyone know why this isn't working?

As files you have also the grasshopper system and the rhino system.

It would be very very helpfull for me when anyone has an idea to solve the problem.

Tanks, Tanja

Hi,

It is because you have like 18 items in the H list (as well as the V list), but you are moving only 10 of them, and from the first 10 items in the list 8 of them are null values. Even though the same happens in the V list, you won't see a problem because the parts you need are on the first 10 places in the list. So either pick the right ones to orient/move from the list, or for the better create the right list in the beginning.

Also I didn't understand why you did the Explode/Join/RInt/Clean operations, maybe to get rid of the duplicates, but it would be less painful if there weren't duplicates in the beginning.

Just one last reminder, if you didn't realize, two of the parts in the V list are sitting right next to each other in the box.

btw, I am about sure but you know they are all the same shapes right? I mean, besides the end parts which are rectangles, all the parts in each list are the same shape (one for the V list and one for the H list).

Thank you very much!

I know that they are all the same. I have to make such a system not only for a rectangle also for a trapez or a triangle... So I have to differ between each line.

And I do the Explode/Join/RInt/Clean also because of that. I have to get the littelst concerted surface of the front and the backside of each V and H shape.

Do you have perhaps an idea how I can solve the problem?

I couldn't understand which problem you are talking about. if it's about the Explode/Join/RInt/Clean thing and if it is working, then there's no problem.

You know, when you do this with a triangle or trapezoid envelope, your slices will have angled end corners if they will have some thickness, so a 2D cut will not do the whole job. Maybe this was what you were saying already.

I didn't check the other parts of the system actually and it would take some time for me to understand what's going on there. Maybe if you can summarize the decision steps of the system, and tell where the problem is, it can be easier to find solutions.

Have a nice time!
