Removing inner Faces of a Mesh

Hi,take a look at these to Meshes in rendered Mode (with snow - since Christmas is coming up). This is one Mesh and I would like to cull the inner "ribs" and only keep the outer faces.…Continue

Displaying solid hatches in Grasshopper

Hi everyone,I'm currently working with a GH Defintion, which creates 100.000ds of small, planar closed curves. Since the curves are very small, I would like to display them not with their outlines,…Continue

Hi everyonewhen I'm creating huge GH definitions, they sometimes take a while to calculate. From time to time the calculation takes so long, that windows tells me that the application is "not…Continue

"I'd like to think the Grasshopper SDK is pretty friendly to 3rd party GHA files. There's few things you cannot do as a 3rd party developer. But yes, it will need to be exposed in a flexible yet easy to use way. The .NET framework has some…"

Grasshopper User Interface Language

Hi everyone,I've been introducing Rhino and Grasshopper to students in Math Classes at Schools (Junior High and High School Level). The students loved it - and the teachers loved it, too, because it "playfully" illustrates otherwise quite dry concepts of mathematical geometry. However the foreign language made it quite difficult for them to explore the program further on their own. The kids with very much drive eventually figured out the pictos, but the teachers were reluctant to include GH into…See More

"Ah, I see what you're looking to do now.  Yes...messy meshes to begin with...and great call on the occlusion thing...Looks like a very promising start...joined + welded with weaverbird, split disjoint mesh, then took each face centerpoint…"

Karl Wecker replied to Karl Wecker's discussion Removing inner Faces of a Mesh
"Hi David, thanks for sharing the concept. But isn't it true, that the outer faces have one edge in common with the inner faces. (And therefore also have more edges in common than their edge count). Thanks -Karl"

David Stasiuk replied to Karl Wecker's discussion Removing inner Faces of a Mesh
"I think the method would depend on how your mesh is constructed...if your internal faces are duplicated, then you can extract the centerpoints from the mesh face polylines and test them for adjacency to one another...then identify all of the faces…"

Michael Pryor replied to Karl Wecker's discussion Removing inner Faces of a Mesh
"best way I have found. Since interior faces back to back will always be a duplicate we can cull all duplicate area centroids and use that index to call out only exterior faces."

"I had a similar situation where I wanted to remove the inner faces of stacked blocks. If you know or can identify the plane that the intersection occurs on you can use that to help select and cull the mesh faces. You could also investigate their…"
