LOL I understand this - what It is not clear how are changing the z values in physical world...with a button? what device tells arduino to send this input to firefly etc..? what do u mean a steppers?

probably SONY is a better compromise. Price is good and perfomance is not worse than HP. Have also a look at Dell laptops.
