Hardware suggestions - Rhino/GH update
4 Replies

I know this has been discussed in the past but I would like to ask if there are any new considerations relating to an optimal hardware setup with the upcoming Rhino and GH updates in mind.Continue

"Hi Ernst, Daysim isn't very accurate for direct illuminance analysis because the position of the sun is approximated to one of 65 locations for the entire year. The DDS version of Daysim is more accurate but that is not implemented in…"

"On a slightly separate note: I believe the GH file I posted produces annual lux-hour values and it allows you to visualize results with colored grids. My actual file is more complex and I think visualizing results in this manner will help understand…"

"Thank you for the detailed response, Sarith! Could you elaborate on why Daysim is not accurate for direct illuminance analysis? Is there any way to run "pure" radiance analysis with Rhino/Grasshopper? Just to be clear: what you are…"

"Sunlight hours won't give me annual lux hours. It is a step towards evaluating direct exposure though (noted by Sarith below). Thanks."

"If this for an actual project and not just a thought experiment, I think your solution might be overly simplistic. Both CIE 157:2004 and LG8:2015 (which appears to defer to CIE 157:2004) mention limiting illuminance and limiting exposure…"

"Hi Ernst, Since you're using the visible light as a proxy for UV, can you use the sunlight hours analysis in Ladybug to evaluate surfaces of interest to you?"

Light Exposure - Lux Hours

I could not find any discussions on this topic. Harmful light exposure to museum objects is often measured in lux hours (visible light is used also as a proxy for UV). I do not think this is something that can be generated out of the box with Honeybee. I created the attached solution, which works ok when there are a small number of surfaces to be analyzed, but it would be tedious to analyze a larger number of surfaces because I do not know how to visualize them all at once.I would appreciate…See More

"Took me a while to figure this out since I had no idea which component to use and because I had no idea how path mapper works (that seems to be the component for the job!). Attached divides branches into groups of 2 (as per the notes above)."

"That is exactly what I am looking for. n is known. x and y are not known but are unimportant. The number of base level branches (or the total number of initial branches) after transformation is not known, but there will be an even number of…"

"So you have: {0} N = 3 {1} N = 3 {2} N = 5 {3} N = 5 ... Where n=2, x=3 and y=5? And you want: {0;0} N = 3 {0;1} N = 3 {1;0} N = 5 {1;1} N = 5 ... Or did I misunderstand? Also, do you know n, x and y, or do you need GH to figure out these…"

Simple Tree Structuring Question - Partition List for Branches

I have a data tree with thousands of branches. First n branches have x items each. Following n branches have y items each. Following n branches have z items each. How do I turn these branches into sub-branches, with n sub-branches in one main branch. I am looking to do the same as what Partition List does for a list, but instead of individual items, I need branches partitioned.  See More
