ISO curves from lofted surface
5 Replies

From the set of curves in the 3DM file I used the loft function in GH, found the vertical edge, divided it and used those points to try to get a series of ISO curves on the surface of the loft at the…Continue

A staggered array of spheres on a surface
22 Replies

In the example below (a napkin holder), I've been doing the array of spheres by hand; basically creating section curves, then using ArrayCurve to place the spheres and adjusting where needed.I can do…Continue

Distributing spheres on an elipsoid
6 Replies

I've been having a little trouble figuring out how to regularly pack an ellipsoidal surface with spheres.  Any help would be much appreciated.Continue

Fillet edge of a solid
5 Replies

Hi:  Just, wondering.  Is there a convenient way to simply fillet the edge of a solid object like a box, cone or cylinder?

Al Krever replied to Elliot Blanchard's discussion Beginner question - how to extrude a surface without creating internal faces?
"Hi Elliot:   I typically select them during the extract surface command and then delete them.  I'm not sure that one could automate that.  I don't know how I would differentiate between the internal surface and all the other…"

Al Krever replied to Elliot Blanchard's discussion Beginner question - how to extrude a surface without creating internal faces?
"If this was your end point, then you could bake the object.  Once baked use the extract surface command in rhino to extract the interior surfaces and then delete them. If this is an interim step this would not be the way to go. "

Al Krever replied to Kuba's discussion How to "put" any pattern on the waved surface
"I have to say that I don't hate icons myself but that isn't the issue. When I'm trying to solve a problem I want the description of what a component does not its subjective iconic representation.  Personally I remember the…"

"Neat...I'll look forward to it.  Of course by then I hope I won't really be needing it ;-)"

Al Krever replied to Kuba's discussion How to "put" any pattern on the waved surface
"Yep...I was not intending to criticize one camp or the other.  Just needed a little helping hand to understand the current example. You must admit that the text labels are, at least, searchable whereas the icons are not.   "

Al Krever replied to Kuba's discussion How to "put" any pattern on the waved surface
"Yes they are very nice.   Couple of comments though:  1) I don't think its a good idea for labels to repeat. 2) Some of us have better text memory than image memory and unless you use them all the time they are not easy to remember…"

Al Krever replied to Kuba's discussion How to "put" any pattern on the waved surface
"HI:  Just a small request for those of us who aren't as familiar with the icons.  Could you post this with the "text" labels rather than the icons?  It's hard searching through the tabs to find out what they mean…"

Igor replied to Al Krever's discussion A staggered array of spheres on a surface
"For an example of Geodesic Dome a script written by Gabriel Krause, difficult enough, but giving excellent splitting."

Igor replied to Al Krever's discussion A staggered array of spheres on a surface
"Hi friends. In the definition I have found out serious errors over which now I work. The basic idea was to arrange objects structured on hexagonal grid according to curvature and non-uniformity of a surface. As it is known with hexagons it is…"

Al Krever replied to Al Krever's discussion A staggered array of spheres on a surface
"This is an interesting problem and I've been thinking about it a great deal. When I first started experimenting with this, if you look at my earlier GH, I used divide by length upon the ISOcurves rather than number, where length was the fixed…"

Anjy78 replied to Al Krever's discussion A staggered array of spheres on a surface
" Waht is missing is how to change the radius of the sphere in order to make tangent to the one next to it. Maybe somebody else has an idea ? In this case it is link to the curvature of the dome which can be turn into a function."

Al Krever replied to Al Krever's discussion A staggered array of spheres on a surface
"Hi Igor and Anjy:  Try playing around with this surface.  I've been messing with it a bit and have had some peculiar results.  I'm interested in seeing what you fellows can do with it."

Anjy78 replied to Al Krever's discussion A staggered array of spheres on a surface
"Hi Igor, I don´t get the correction default radius of your definition , the point is to create a definition where sphere are perfectly tangent. Do you think it can be achieved or maybe it is already the case ,if yes why these corrections ?"

"you may want to try this to dreate the grid you need on the surface of your choice. "
