Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

The aluminium pavilion was designed and constructed for the Digital Design Production course given at the EPFL by Paul Ehret and Philipp Eversmann.

The pavilion visual and technical design has all been done under grasshopper. The pieces have cut out of planar aluminium sheets with the help of a waterjet and have been folded in order to obtain their final aspect. Each wall consists of 70 differnt pieces which have been assembled together with an unique joint.

I love this piece. It has inspired me to explore aluminium in my own structural work after we saw the prototypes on a visit to EPFL with my unit, DS10 from the University of Westminster. Pictures from our trip to EPFL at Lausanne and ETH at Zurich can be found on our unit blog: http:wewanttolearn.net. We also posted the 'Material Matters' video showcasing the work of your unit. Looking forward to seeing more of your guys work in the future.

Regards, Michael
