generative modeling for Rhino
A Mobius strip is a surface with only one surface with only one boundary component. It has the mathematical property of being non-orientable.
Completed. MDF Layers. About 250mm Diameter. Any inaccuracies in the shape is down to my filing. This was produced using a laser cutter, obviously a 5-axis CNC would have been much useful, but i don’t have access to one. Still undecided wether i will varnish it.

Comment by djordje on August 17, 2012 at 3:56pm Great work Nick!!!
I need to get one of these, in a smaller scale, and throw it from hand to hand, just for fun :)
Comment by Bogdan Obradovic on February 13, 2012 at 7:35pm final looks great, in a way better than wood because of the "cracks"
Comment by Nick Tyrer on September 9, 2011 at 4:58am Yes pretty much Mehmet. I modelled it as a solid then sectioned it through about 50 intersections. Then they were all layed out for lasercutting
Comment by Nick Tyrer on July 1, 2011 at 10:49am Yes its 3mm mdf, and was cut on a lasercutter. I designed it to be produced thicker than i wanted it so i could file/sand away all the layers.
This is a photo of how it started, pre-filing:
