Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi all,

I am totally new to Kangaroo and any advice or pointer would be welcome!

I'd like to simulate the deformation behavior of a simple helix spring. I've followed some online tutorial and learnt how to create spring behavior. I attached my test file. My question is how to reflect such behavior to a helix spring geometry? I created a helix curve and connect the helix curve line to the "Geometry" input of the Kangaroo Engine, but the helix shape didn't change.

Thanks!

Will the helix geometry compress/stretch in a linear way or bend in all kinds of directions?

Hi Martin,

Thanks for your reply. My goal is to simulate all kinds of directions. But to start, I've tried to simulate linear compression and here is what I've got so far.

If you've any idea how to simulate all kinds of directions I would be really appreciated!

Cheers,

Isn't it just using angle goal that keeps polylines angles fixed - keeping the same angle (your helix has to be polyline)

Then just add length goal, and add unary force down with floor goal for bouncing.
