Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi Daniel ,

I was trying to reach the form of a timber gridshell obteined with K1, with K2 , as shown in the picture, but with no results, i tryed to work a bit more with the bending but it's not working as i am expecting .

What could be the reason ? thank you in advance !

Hi Davide,

Have you looked at this example?:

Hi Daniel,

Yes i did look at your examples but i feel that i am missing something, because i'm trying to turn off the forces that pulls up the grid, and i'm looking on how the structure relaxe and i don't think that the angle component is working how i'm expecting that the grid should relaxe.

Hi Davide,

I'm not sure why this definition is using the anglesnap and equalangles goals - I don't think you want these for a timber gridshell form finding exercise like this.

You also do need something to get the shell buckling out of plane, since all the initial forces are in XY, and otherwise the whole thing just stays in that plane.

Hi Daniel,

Yes i agree with you about the angle snap or the equalangles , but when you enable the load component in the group "pull up forces", you first get a form , but if you try to turn it off again the structure relaxes in a different way i'm expecting to have.

Ah, I see where the problem is-

In your shift-list components in the bending part, you have the 'Wrap' option set to True.

This means you get bending not just between consecutive segments, but between the start and end segment, distorting the form.

Also - the bending strength is very low relative the length goal. I'd recommend increasing this, even if you then put it back down again at the end, as it will make the form-finding step much quicker.

Hi Daniel,

thank you, that was really helpful !
