generative modeling for Rhino
We are happy to announce the first public release of goat - a fast and deterministic optimization solver component.
goat is a gradient-free solver that perfectly complements the evolutionary (and to some extent randomized) approach of David Rutten's galapagos. Get the best of both worlds: goat is a simple drop-in replacement for galapagos.
goat 1.0 is available for download from over here.
For further information, see goat's homepage and its documentation.
We will post some example case studies in the upcoming days. Please give us feedback to improve this first version to a mature state!
enjoy, simon

If possible, please let me know your browser version so that I can have a look into the problem.

Permalink Reply by Luis Fraguada on June 14, 2012 at 12:26am Hello Simon,
Downloaded this last night and was attempting a simple test, just to see how it works. After connecting the variables and objectives, I double-click on the component to set some things (set to maximize). I click 'ok' but iterations do not happen, nor does the appropriate result occur. Am I missing something? What should I expect will happen? With Galapagos I am used to a bunch of iterations occurring, is this not the case with the Goat?
Thanks!
p.s. the set up is just a surface and a point. Variables set up a uv point to traverse the surface...I was looking for the highest point. Perhaps I am missing the point of the Goat vs Galapagos?
p.p.s. I will continue to unofficially call this 'the Goat.'
Permalink Reply by Simon Flöry on June 14, 2012 at 2:42am Hi Luis,
after clicking ok in goat's settings dialog, the dialog disappears and you will see the number sliders change their values for some time. Eventually, a dialog with an "Optimization successful" message will show up. Apart from this, there is no graphical user interface right now.
If above is not the case for you, could you please share the rhino and grasshopper file?
best, simon
