I have read in this discussion that there is a 5 min timeout between grasshopper/geco and ecotect. Your solution to refresh/reconnect the ecolink works fine for me, but i am using galapagos and sometimes the 5 min delay throws off my process. Is there any other way to bypass the timeout?
Thanks,
JB

we will add a custom timeout for the next release.
currentley there is no way to override it
Permalink Reply by Gajan Punnia-Moorthy on April 28, 2012 at 8:22pm Hi guys
I'm trying to download GECO into Rhino/Grasshopper and for some reason, I come up with this error (see attachment)
I've downloaded the GECO files and copied the geco grasshopper assembly file and the NDde.dll file and pasted them in the following directory:
My Computer - Local (C: Drive) - Program Files - Rhinoceros 4.0 - Plug-ins - Grasshopper - Components
The version of GECO I've downloaded was geco_1.0.8.0 (for grasshopper 0.6.0059),
it could be the wrong version I'm downloading which is the problem isn't it
The version of Rhino I have is Rhino 4.0 SR9
I just need to find out what problems I'm having with installing GECO into Rhino/Grasshopper and how they can be resolved
Cheers

please downlaod the actual version for GH080066 and not for one of the first releases.
This version includes a installer.
Please make sure that you delete the files you copied.
thx
Permalink Reply by Aste Ploug Henriksen on May 14, 2012 at 1:23pm Hi does anyone know if you can get the "lighting calculations" component to scale to a non rectangular surface just like the "Insolation Calculations" component does? I am aware of the "FitGrid" component but it just remove some of the analysis sub-quads, and i would like to scale them and keep em all. So that I can recieve the data from Ecotect back into GH and Geco.
Thanks

One of my students has an issue with the mesh exporter. When ecotect is called, there is a script error as seen in the image attached. His windows version is in a non-english language. I think some of the special characters are messing things up, or it might be a permissions issue. When he exports points he has no issue, only with the mesh exporter. Any idea? Thanks,
Luis
Permalink Reply by Luis Fraguada on June 7, 2012 at 12:30am Thanks to to] for providing a quick answer. Unfortunately/Fortunately this particular student has a name with characters that get jumbled at some point in the process. The culprit character was: ö. The quick solution was to have the student make a new user on his computer which does not use these characters. Everything worked fine after this.
Thanks!

Permalink Reply by Matteo Birocchi on June 20, 2012 at 10:38am Hi uto,
I am trying to create a model that maximize the direct radiation that enters in the room. I would like Galapagos to find me the optimal configuration of the internal shelf (that are rotating mirrows) to have the maximum radiation inside the room...
The problem is that it doesn't work. It works on ecotect but then I can't visualize the results in galapagos. I can see just 2 results and no more.
Furthermore the best would be to perform the calculation with radiance..
Can you suggest me how to do it?
Thanks a lot
Matteo
