Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi Everyone,

After a long time coming, the complete Firefly toolkit has finally been upgraded for Rhino 5.0 (both 32-bit and 64-bit versions).  This new release includes an updated C_sawapan_media.dll (many thanks to Panagiotis Michalatos!) as well as a new installer!

The installer should automatically remove any previous versions, and copy all of the core Firefly Grasshopper Assembly files (as well as any needed dependencies) into the roaming Libraries folder on your computer.  Additionally, it should automatically copy all of the necessary Arduino sketches into your sketchbook folder (usually found in the Arduino folder under My Documents).  If this folder does not exist, it will create one for you.  Additionally, it should also create a new Firefly folder under My Documents where it will place all of the current Grasshopper example files for you to use.

There are no 'new' components in this release (although I've been working on some fun new ones... including one for the Leap controller... will be posting more about this soon) although this release does mark a big milestone for the plugin.  All future releases will now target .NET 4.0 and will thus only be compatible with Rhino 5.0 (both 32-bit and 64-bit versions).  Rhino 4.0 users can still use the existing build 1.0067.

PS.  Please let me know if you find any issues with the installer.  It's a work in progress :)

Hi Everyone,

I realize that this isn't necessarily related to a topic posted in this thread... but I just realized (thanks to Richard Gomez) that the Firefly Build for 64-bit version (the latest one with the installer) had been referencing the older Kinect SDK v1.5.  However, the latest SDK version is 1.6 and if you were using the latest build, then the Kinect components would not work properly.  I have now referenced the latest SDK and re-uploaded the installer with this latest build.  If you're using the Kinect SDK 1.6 and had previously downloaded the latest Firefly build for Rhino 5.0 (64-bit), I would recommend re-installing this new version (I just uploaded the latest installer Feb 10th, 2013 at 6:50pm EST).  Sorry again for all of the confusion and thanks for your patience as I iron out some of these bugs.

Cheers,

Andy

Hi, I'm experiencing the same issue of Brian Harms. It looks like Rhino is crashing while trying to load grasshopper, and in particular while grasshopper is loading the Firefly x assembly.

Any ideas?

Hi Ed,

Can you double check that you have the latest version of Rhino 5.0 64-bit installed on your machine?  I've noticed that in some instances this has been caused by having an older version of Rhino 5.0 (evaluation version) installed.  Another thing to try is to uninstall Firefly (using Add/Remove program) and then try re-installing.  Brian was able to get his working, so hopefully we can get this issue solved for you.

Cheers,

Andy

Hey Andy,

I am having the same issue.  Running Rhino5 64 and all is up to date.

Best,

Rich

Hey Andy,

Unfortunately I'm having issues again. Before when firefly was working fine I didn't have the kinect components. So I ran the newest installer hoping it would just add the few extra components, but instead it reverted back to the way it was before with out any of the vision tools. The kinect components worked fine though.

I realized that the way I got it to work before was just to uninstall and use the rhino 4 install files instead - so I guess I never really successfully got the installer to work.

Unfortunately I need both the vision components and the kinect components, but I can't seem to get both working at the same time.

Any ideas on why this might be happening?

thanks,

Brian

I'm having a problem connecting the LEAP controller now... getting:

"1. Solution exception:Could not load file or assembly 'LeapCSharp.NET4.0, Version=0.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=6e1b1368e71eba9b' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified."

from the finger tracker. The controller is working otherwise... any ideas?

Hi Evan. I am having the same problem. Did you find a solution?
