using colors for dividing image into different surfaces

Could anyone give me advice, or link, tutorial how one image could be divided into different surfaces, segments, by using different colors?

Thank you

Could you elaborate? You have an image and want to cut it into separate pieces where each piece contains only a single colour? What about similar colours, are they allowed to be merged into a single piece? Are you looking for per-pixel accuracy, or a more smooth and coarse grained cutting?

Thank you for your replay

Yes, exactly that. Want to cut it into separate pieces, and of course, similar colours are allowed to be merged into a single piece. I am more into smooth cutting.

I attached three files showing progressive steps in trying to find similar colours in an image. The Cull Vertex component is incredibly slow for some reason (~12 seconds on my machine) which makes this approach rather annoying, but I can't think of anything better.

David,

thank you so much for this files :) I hope it would be useful and lead me to the results that I need :)

I think this (what you want) is something that I tried a while ago, but it is very slow to an acceptable resolution.
