Uneven Surface Subdivision_ Possible Bug with Bezier Graph Mapper

I am trying to reproduce an example in the grasshopper Primer old version (0.6.0007), and its not working in the new version. The Bezier graph mapper does not seem like its working, it is only outputting 0 or 1, not a gradient. Would love any helps or thoughts you may have. I have attached the files.
