Transition from one component to the flat surface in panelling ( or to another component)

Hi,
How can i achieve a controlled transformation between one component to another when I' m panelling?
Let's say i want to populate a surface with 2 components and i want to control the transition from one to the other . How can we do that?
Between 2 different components ?
From a flat surface to one component?
I have this definition and this component for example but i don' t want to populate the whole surface,just some parts, but i want a soft transition from the flat to the component.
( and if i want to have 2 components and a flat part?)
