this exception means that it is not allowed to modify Rhino layers from the Grasshopper document (which has no layers). There is an easy fix if you are only doing Rhino document manipulation. Choose:
(Right-click the component to see the menu above)
I'd agree with anyone saying that the name is too specific. It should say "Use the Rhino document". I'll fix it.
Also, can I ask you in the future to post GhPython questions in the scripting category?
