Structural feasibility of a minimal surface.

I wonder if there is any engineering plugin or tool for controlling / testing the structural performances of relaxed surfaces. Creating a relaxed surface in tension, I 'd like to know who we can control the critical stress area of the surface when it operates in compression. How can we control the performance of aluminium or other materials thickness in relaxed surfaces.
