generative modeling for Rhino
I am trying to create a notched rib version of the attached file but the waffleing definitions that I have seen to date all basically create z axis extrusions which doesn't really work here. (Or I just have been doing it wrong...) So does anyone have a solution which creates ribs and notches which are normal to the surface ?
Is this a job for Paracloud GEM ?
It seems possible. Once you have your ribs drawn (extruded not notched), you can make a curve that goes through the center of the two sets of rib geometries (looking from the front view)(can probably be done with the centroid of the ribs from 'area component'). Since your form is pretty much just an extrusion from the front plane, you can extrude the curve so it bifurcates the ribs (you might have to extrude positive in y the move it -y/2 so it intersects all parts of the ribs). Pick a set of ribs A or B (where B is perpendicular to A).
If you pick Ribs A, and they are the top ribs then split the A ribs in half by splitting The A ribs along the center surface. Take the top halves of the A ribs and subtract them from the B ribs to get Notched B Ribs. Then subtract the Notched B Ribs from the Original A Ribs. This should give you ribs that fit at the center.
Once you decide how you want your ribs post it and I can show you.
