red shard > how to approach this design

hi guys 

im trying to have to follow the image attached and to make an organic coral like shape. 

at  this point i don't really know how to approach this, however i know visually that this is a mix of voronoi with growth > probably rabbit.

i would love to get all the help you can throw at me so i can make it work
