Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hello!

I'm trying to map a series of helical curves onto this mesh object.  So far I've only been able to get the one curve to work (see JPG), and even then it doesn't fit the mesh very well.  Ideally, I want to then loft the curves to create a corkscrew surface of sorts.  I feel like some sort of isotrim is necessary?

Any advice/input is welcome.

Thanks!

Josh

You want to do like a cylindrical projection of the curve to the mesh?

Yeah, but not just a single curve.  I'd like to break down the mesh into cylindrical curves, if that makes any sense.

hmm...

You could mess around with Kangaroo to achieve a shrink wrap effect (search for shrink wrap).  That's the only GH way I can think of to pull points to a mesh.

Otherwise figure out a way to convert your mesh object into single surface and you might have more options (project, closest point, curve on surface, etc...).

Actually, give this a try...  Not the cleanest solution, but functional.

It's a simple mesh/line intersection routine.  Draw any curve around your mesh object.

Thanks Taz!  I'll give this a try.

I ended up using just contours, but that's exactly what i needed.  Thanks so much for your help!!
