Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

I'm attaching a small plugin I wrote a couple days ago: KLIPSPRINGER

It's a very basic component, you just feed it meshes, a filepath and an extension and it automatically outputs a series of files when you animate a slider.

We needed its functionality for a design studio where we asked our students to do animations and the existing scripts didn't allow any texture assignment (Klipspringer can assign objects to layers, which can have materials preset). As I had to do a documentation anyway, I decided to give it a proper Rhino'esque name and post it for everyone to use.

I want to emphasize that previous work in that area was done by Damien Alomar and Giulio Piacentino (for rendering, not exporting). Furthermore, Benjamin Golder recently posted his Finches: Local Code plugin - if you need more functionality than animation, that's currently the way to go!

Perhaps someone still enjoys the humble Klipspringer, if only for his adorable name :)

And now back to the serious robot stuff :)

Johannes

P.S.: The PDF includes some helpful links to plugins/scripts which enable the import of mesh sequences (e.g. into C4D, 3DSMax, Blender etc.), so I'm attaching it separately. It is also included in the ZIP file!

Always ahead of the curve...

Thanks for sharing!

hey! Thanx for sharing!

However its looks like it is not working on latest gh build......

Hmmm... Not good... I'll take a look at it ASAP, but I'm currently working hard on another project - I'll see what I can do!

Hello Philipp,

I'm really sorry that it took me a week to get back to you! I finally had some time to take a look at Klipspringer with Rhino 4 SR8 and Rhino 5 WIP (latest):

With the Rhino 5 WIP for some reason Rhino refuses to save - they probably changed something there. However, with Rhino 4 SR8 its running just fine. I got your example to work without any additional adjustments - you might want to save a random mesh primitive as OBJ before you start the batch (happened once to me). In general, 3DS is easier because it doesn't ever show a save-option dialog.

I'm in the middle of a project so I don't really want to update to SR9 right now - hopefully the Rhino 5 WIP problem doesn't also apply to SR9.

Let me know if you still got problems!

Regards,

Johannes
