Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Im having an issue getting the proper scaling in grasshopper for an image sampler.

Essentially I generated a large number of curves in a past GH definition and created a series of drawings from those in illustrator that gave me a nice series of gray fades. I am now trying to use those gray fades (in jpg) to extrude points based on the degree of white to black using the image sampler.

I have place the image sampler onto a surface that was created from those original curves in rhino - this is supposed to guarantee that the greyness achieved from guassian blurs in the AI/PS file is transfered with the proper scale back into Rhino.

For some reason I cannot get the image to scale properly onto the surface. I either get a huge series of wrongly-sized tiles, off-centered/unsized singles, or nothing. Tried a bunch of different methods and could not get the image to scale correctly.

I've attached the image, file and GH definition if someone can point me out. Seems like it should work, so I assume that (unknown to me) one or two options are not working in tandem.

Your image sampler X and Y domain are still the default 0.0 to 1.0. Your points on the other hand are all over the place. I think you need to either normalise your points before you sample, or choose the correct domain for the image.

David, excellent, thank you. That seems like its working. My only question is how to control the numbering with some certainty? IE: you've done a -75 to 75 for the X domain, but did not do a -205 to 205 for the Y. Does it have something to do with the placement of the actual surface in the rhino modeling space? As in the center of the surface should be placed at 0,0,0?
