generative modeling for Rhino

help in making pattern

i made this pattern 
but when i make surface difrrences
it just stops
if anyone can tell me where is the wrong ?

i want it as a 2d pattern
i added the ectrude
caphole
then solid diffrences
and make (B) flatten
but it just stops?
can anyone plz help me
