algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi Guys,

Any chance I can add ALPHA (transparency) to a gradient scale?
I mapped the numbers to colors, but I want to have little transparency so I can overlap multiple layers of information.

Simply, I wanna make indexes of diagrams and superimpose them to read different maps.

else I will have to export to illustrator but then I lose my control on real time analysis.

will really appreciate your reply.

regards, bibo

Hi Bibo,

the Gradient object supports transparency, but the Rhino display might not, depending on what you are drawing.

You can set the alpha value of colours on the gradient the same way you set the colours.

The gradient component has been broken for quite some time now. It supports alpha (just like the swatch, select the 4th channel for alpha), but controlling it is quite difficult.

For simple gradients you can do/fake this this with Blend Colours (see example).

Hi David/Arend,

Thanks for the replies.

David, I think Arend is right, its quite difficult to edit the colors, been trying to select the grips and then edit the colors with no way to figure out.. you can only click and hold, if mouse released options disappear.

happened once by chance but couldn't find the Alpha channel at the 'misc' panel.

and if i clicked on the corner color wheel, it keeps adding unwanted colors.

I want to analyze zones according to different attractors once at a time [not multiple attractors], and overlay all information together at the same time.. thats why i need transparency to see through.

I think for the time being I will be using Arned's fake gradient.

Regards, AAR.

Yup, that's the bug. If the gradient is on the canvas then you can right click on grips and change the colour, but that doesn't work at the moment for gradients inside other windows.
