algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi there,

I've recently been exploring Kangaroo for its form-finding capabilities and I understand how it is difficult to fabricate prototypes directly from it. I was just wondering how close, or if it is even slightly possible, to creating as many planar surfaces on this polysurface I have created?

Also, is it possible to 3D print non-planar surface? Very newbie questions, very new in Rhino and Grasshopper sorry!

I'll answer your second question: yes, it is possible to 3d print non-planar surfaces. (Do a Google image search and you'll find plenty of examples.)

As for creating planar surfaces for the form you created, I'm sure it is possible to optimize the form and the subdivisions, but this is a very big topic.

Sweet, I've just been recently looking at preparing models for 3D Printing so I hope something like this is achievable as a prototype.

My goal is really just to make something out of this as its for one of my studios exploring digital fabrication - I'm only beginning, but how difficult would it be to convert the non-planar surfaces into planar surfaces as best as possible, and then to print them out into strips to fabricate?

Would my best bet to use Weaverbird's subdivision components? I've been playing around with them a bit.
