Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hello there! I am new to Grasshopper but I have a fair bit of modeling experience in Rhino. I would like to use Grasshopper to create a part for a fan that I am designing in Rhino. Specifically, it is the ventilated cover to a fan. 

They usually look something like this. Now you see the ribbed vent detail circling out from the center? I would like to replace that with the fibonacci pattern. Basically I want to use the fibonacci pattern to model the golden spiral into a vent's ribs.

My idea is that maybe I can use Grasshopper to create some kind of fibonacci mesh that I can reflect onto a cylinder. And maybe I could even have a variable be the degree, so that I can tweak the degrees and get any of the Vogel model results. 

Can anyone lead me in the right direction?

I am terribly sorry! I read that on my phone and could not see any attachment, and therefore I took it as a sarcastic comment! As if you were telling me simply "To start." Ha.

Anyways, Daniel, that is beautiful! I love the fact that I am able to tweak the angle. Gorgeous. Now how exactly do you go about working with these curves in Rhino? They seem to be untouchable, red, I can't really select them...

To send gh_geometry to Rhino, right click (or middle click) over component > bake.

Absolutely amazing. Thank you! My thinking to create this part was to trim parts that I did not need through the middle and the outside to make it circular. I tried joining the curves but it did not work. I went through with an extrude surface to get the thickness to my part.

Now I am trying to thicken the individual ribs, and join them as one solid. I know I can do this in Solidworks easily. I saved the part as an .iges to see if I could thicken them in SW and it worked. Not sure about joining them, but it's a start.

Any idea on if I should try to solve more of these problems in Rhino or Solidworks, and if SW then how should I properly import the part? FYI, I will most likely create the rest of the fan in Solidworks.

If you are going to create the main part and assembly files in Solid Works it is worth considering what sketch geometry you would need to actually model the part in SW and use Grasshopper to generate curves that you can export as DXF from Rhino and import into a SW sketch. This way you have full Solid Works solid bodies throughout your model.

If you go from curve to surfaces in Rhino and export as IGS to import to SW then sometimes you can be limited as to what you can do with the surface / solid goemetry in SW.
