Closest point on mesh

Hi all

Is there any function in SDK, or an algorithm to call a closest point on a mesh?

I have about 8000 face mesh, which, if i turn into surfaces (surface by points) and then, join them into a brep, it becomes absolutely unworkable.(crashes)

from the SDK is it possible to call somehting similar to the "pull" node? which "pulls a point to a variety of geometry"
it would be great!

I was interested what you mean by MeshTree. I am not so familiar with the vocabulary in english. Is it like a graph?

Hi Richard,

trees are subdivisions of space, where each subdivision volume contains references to particular segments of the actual geometry. We use trees for Pointclouds, Meshes, Curves, Surfaces and BReps in order to quickly discard portions of the geometry that cannot possibly yield good results.

The word "tree" is used since all the volumes ("leaves") in the structure are grouped into larger volumes, until only a single volume remains. This base volume (sometimes called "trunk" or "root") is typically similar to the bounding-box of the geometry.

Hi Damien,

I am really new to grasshopper and I am trying to do something similiar. I have a mesh created by MSphere and now I wanna find the closest pt on the mesh to another pt. I was trying to use the method you showed and it doesn't work for me. I wonder if there is anything I am missing. I attached the screenshot for reference.

Recently I do some reaserch on the topic about stress trajectory, I get can many spots and their stress vector direction on a geometry model ,which can be see from the picture below, but I do not have any ideas how doachieve the objection .in the website i see some information very similar ro my topic .can you give me some more instruction .The stress trajectory curves should on the geometry model and best can be expression on the model.
