Cap only works fro planar openings.

Trim the surface, you projected on with th eprojected curve and move the trimmed surfaceto the top of your extrusion.

Joint the trimmed surfaces and the extrusion with brepJoin.

When I trimm my surface, is this the easiest way to do it?

And I'm not sure how to use the script component? It says that no code is applied?

I can't see, what your VB component does. But you don't need it.

There's a SplitSurface component, that does that Rhino's split command does. Then it's a matter of selecting the right one with the  list item.
