generative modeling for Rhino
I'm not sure if this is me going insane or whether gh is the culprit.
Every once in a while I'll be typing in a command into the Create facility such as "xyz" and it will be "xzy" and I go back and re-type it a few times with the same results before I realise that windows is set to use a German Keyboard layout where the "y" and "z" keys are swapped.
It only happens whilst using Rhino/Grasshopper.
It might also explain why I sometimes loose the ctrl+Z shortcut for undo as I'm actually pressing ctrl+Y.
Has anyone else ever experienced this?

Unfortunately this is one shortcut you might hit frequently with CAD Programs.
Permalink Reply by Danny Boyes on June 5, 2012 at 7:43am I think Alt+Shift is the culprit Thanks very much for easing my pain and frustration!

Oh
My
God!
was this the Ctrl+Z shortcut bug the whole time?! I spend hours trying to track that down thinking it was a problem with the menu shortcut handler. Awesome that it's been resolved now.
Grasshopper does enforce neutral culture every now and again (basically to make sure that formatting numbers uses points rather than commas as decimal separators), but I don't think that should affect the keyboard layout.

This "cool office feature" can be a real pain in the ass, especially since apparently no one knows about it. I can see it's handy to be able to adjust the keyboard layout somewhere, but how the fu*k is it useful to switch between english/german layout while typing? I mean, my hardware doesn't magically change...
Only guys who can really use the language bar probably have this thing:
Installing the Office suite will install this service. At the same time it seems to install layouts for the most common languages (for me its German, English, French and Swiss(??)) without ever asking.
Only way I found to deactivate this thing is by unbinding the shortcuts deep down in the system controlpanel for Language/Region.
Permalink Reply by michael sprinzl on June 5, 2012 at 7:40am yes it is possible to change the language of your keyboard, also by a script, plugin .... or what ever. Grasshopper is the ideal playground. Change of the chars xyz sounds like language change.
