analyse panel variation

Hello forum, 

I have a surface subdivided into panels which I would like to have a visualization of in regards to panel variety so that as I optimize the surface to minimize panel variation I have a nice display of the process. So far I can analyse the surfaces by adding up the edge length. but I feel this is a crude method... I would like to be able to somehow compare the individual edge lengths and the angles between the edges... and to combine both as to get a more comprehensive look into panel variation optimization. Any ideas or pointers on how to do this? Thanks
