Event Description

Geographic information systems (GIS) allows us to visualize, generate, and analyze geotagged data in order to better understand relationships, patterns, and trends in the natural and built environment. Advancements in GIS technologies have influenced almost every imaginable discipline in the past three decades. The fields of architecture, urban design and urban planning are amongst the fields that have been drastically influenced by the application of GIS technologies and thinking.

This one-day workshop introduces the GIS to Grasshopper workflow to the participants. Through the introduction of series of plugins such as Meerkat GISElk, and Mosquito, we will understand how various types of GIS data can be accessed and utilized in Grasshopper.

Topics Covered

  • What is GIS?
  • What are GIS data types.
  • Where to look for GIS data.
  • How to export vector data from QGIS.
  • What are projection planes.
  • How to work with Meerkat.
  • How to work with Elk.
  • How to work with Mosquito.
